Blocky Bubbles ports over the "Fancy Bubbles" toggle setting from the Bedrock Edition of the game! This can improve frame rates in some scenarios, but you might just like the way it looks! It is fully configurable through both the vanilla Video Settings menu and the Sodium config screen.

🤝 Compatibility

Blocky Bubbles is out-of-the-box compatible with most mods and resource packs with built-in support for Bare Bones, Faithful 32x, and Faithful 64x. It will also show up inside mesogleas from Wilder Wild and broadly any block implementing behaviors from FrozenLib's WaterLikeBlock, as long as the config option is enabled.

These are not affiliated works; I just added them in for the love of the game :)

🖌️ Faithful credits!

The textures for the Faithful 32x and Faithful 64x extensions have been used with permission from @miniluv73 and @HARYA_ respectively. Thank you!

🕵️ Be a content detective...

Blocky Bubbles, being the first of its kind, is rather popular. This makes it enticing for bad actors on the internet to reupload and profit off my work without permission. Be suspicious if you find a link to anywhere other than here or GitHub: it's not me!

🌐 Hey, I need translators!

If you speak another language that isn't accounted for yet or the current translations are inaccurate/outdated, please file a pull request on GitHub! I'm immensely grateful for all **Blocky Bubbles** contributors 💗💗

Quick port to 26.3! I'm slightly changing the way I publish builds to GitHub and Modrinth. You may notice some minor changes to version pages going forward.
We're not even in 26.3 yet and I already have a big update for you! This one features deep compatibility with [Wilder Wild](<https://modrinth.com/mod/wilder-wild>), adds an extra option for making your bubbles even nicer to look at, and reintroduces a feature I abandoned a long time ago!

## ➕ Additions

Some of you may remember the Faithful 32x integration from the earlier days of **Blocky Bubbles**! The only difference is that it's a configuration option now, rather than a built-in resource pack. This should help to declutter the resource pack screen in some larger modpacks.

## 🔧 Changes
  • Renamed Bubble Columns Sodium settings page to General
  • Renamed parent bubble_column model to template_bubble_column

## 🐛 Fixes
  • Reloading resource packs with animations turned off no longer crashes the thread.
  • The negative space in opaque bubble column faces is now darker than the bubbles themselves.
  • Changing certain modded options in the vanilla Video Settings screen no longer immediately reloads assets. Instead, the reload will be queued up and executed when the screen is closed.
  • Added the terms and conditions of the [*General Public License version 3*](https://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-3.0.html) to the [*LGPLv3*](https://www.gnu.org/licenses/lgpl-3.0.html) license document.
  • This sincerely should have been done from the beginning. I will be fixing this in the next updates to each of my other mods.
Quick n lazy 26.2 have fun xoxo
Support for the upcoming hotfix.
Happy holidays! Here's a gift just for you 🎁 💞

## 🔧 Changes
  • [Sodium] is now truly optional in light of its new config API, specifically designed with addons in mind!
  • All configuration options are now available in the vanilla video settings screen as well as Sodium's redirected counterpart.
  • The master graphics presets will affect the bubble column quality setting when applied.
  • Top Face Culling Method has been renamed to Cullface Method. In theory it now supports all directions for custom block models that supply cullface arguments.
  • The codebase now uses official Mojang mappings in preparation (and practice!) for 26.1.
  • Added tooltips for Cullface Method settings and updated many of the localization strings. Translators will need to make sure their languages have up-to-date entries.

## ➖ Removals
  • Cullface Method > Off has been removed. Resource packs should be used instead if you wish to turn off block face culling entirely.

[Sodium]: https://modrinth.com/mod/sodium
Literally just a version bump. Nothing at all changed. If you're still playing on 1.21.6 through 8, you can safely ignore this patch.
As we wait for the 1.21.10 hotfix to release and mods to finish updating to The Copper Age drop, I have done a little bit of cleaning up and bugfixing for 1.21.6 through 8!

If you want to use [Sodium 0.7.0](https://modrinth.com/mod/sodium/version/mc1.21.8-0.7.0-fabric), you will need to install this version of **Blocky Bubbles** else the game'll crash on startup.

## 🌐 Translators' Note
zh_TW still needs translations for the following tags:
  • blocky-bubbles.options.opaque_faces
  • blocky-bubbles.options.opaque_faces.tooltip

Also, "Bubble Columns" (blocky-bubbles.options.quality) changed to simply "Bubbles" in this update. I have updated this for all supported languages already.

## 🔧 Changes
  • Moved the Sodium subsettings menu to its own tab rather than sharing the content of the Quality page.
  • Reduced the verbosity of some translation tags.
  • I have updated these for all supported languages already.

## 🐛 Fixes
  • #16: Updated to Sodium version 0.7.0.
  • The quality option (of type SodiumGameOptions$GraphicsQuality) has now been moved to its own separate enumerator, BubblesQuality. This also means 3 new translation tags per language file, which I have already added simply by copying from vanilla.
  • The game now requires *at least* fabric loader version 0.17.2.
  • Added [Reese's Sodium Options](https://modrinth.com/mod/reeses-sodium-options) to the mod runtime environment.
Hey! This is mostly just a trivial update for the Chase The Skies drop and its hotfixes. But first, a solemn announcement...

## 🪦 The End-est of the Lives
I have finally stood up for the part of myself that had been weighed under by the workload of handling multiple game versions at the same time.

For those in the modding scene you'll know it's a pain in the ass to keep up with. For those not in the know: it's incredibly demotivating and shifts my focus away from the quality of the content I make. For this reason, I have decided I will no longer be supporting versions before the most recent release.

I am aware that this will alienate a portion of my consumers: it's simply the only way forward for me to continue enjoying what I do. I am sorry if you're someone who will be affected by this decision. I hope you can continue to enjoy my work!!

## 🔧 Changes
  • Updated the mod icon.

## 🐛 Fixes
  • Updated pt_BR localization. Thanks, @SeriousFreezing!
  • Cleaned up the codebase in some minor ways.
## 🐛 Fixes
  • Updated ru_RU language to match the new option schema. Thanks, @mpustovoi!
  • Certain sodium options now display their proper translations.

Hey there! Happy Spring to Life Drop! I know many of you will be wanting to play right away so here's a quick update for you, featuring a new configuration setting and many small changes to make the codebase and your user experience even nicer than before.

Now that the config is growing a bit bigger, I'll take the opportunity to officially endorse [Reese's Sodium Options][rso]! It makes the Sodium option pages a little bit easier to navigate, and also stops the options from running off the screen entirely on certain GUI scales and screen resolutions.

Before talking about the content in this update, I need to make an important announcement...

## 🪦 End-of-Life Versions
A little while ago, I stopped supporting versions below 1.20 due to multiple versions becoming more and more difficult to maintain as the game itself updates faster. Well, I plan to do it again. Assuming no further hotfix, **Update 1.5.0** will be the final release for the following versions:

  • 1.20.2
  • 1.20.4
  • 1.20.6

These versions don't have very much demand compared to 1.20.1, 1.21.1 and the latest drop, so those will be staying. I'm also keeping 1.21.3 and 1.21.4 to allow the players on those versions some time to migrate to 1.21.5 if they so choose. The versions mentioned will be deprecated unless a hotfix needs to happen before deprecation. Make sure to report any issues you encounter on [GitHub][issues]; the clock is ticking!

Now onto the content...

## ➖ Removals
The in-built 32x resource pack has been removed in this update. Simply put, managing built-in resource packs on multi-version projects like this one is freaking *annoying*, and they somewhat bloat the resource pack menu. Fret not though, I plan to publish a standalone resource pack on my Modrinth profile which you can download and install to upscale the textures of *all of my mods* at the same time. It will also be handled on a separate GitHub repository which you will all be able to contribute to!

It's not quite ready yet, but I will work on getting it out as soon as I can after updating each of my mods to 1.21.5. Thank you for your patience! ~🌸

## ➕ Additions
There is a new configuration option in this update: **Opaque Faces**!

This allows you to render the bubble column models in an even more performant way than before, by filling in the transparent gaps with a hardcoded blue color.

![A world made of opaque bubble columns](run/screenshots/2025-03-27_12.53.59.png)

> [!NOTE]
> This resembles how Fast Leaves work!

I'll be honest, *I don't think this doesn't look very good* lol. However, it may still appeal to you if you're trying to debug something or if you play with **Animations** disabled. I'll let you be the judge of that!

## 🔧 Changes
Some option names have changed in this update. You will need to re-enter any values you changed before this update:

  • "Culling" (culling_mode) ➡ "Top Face Culling" (top_face_culling_method)
  • This was changed because only the top faces of the bubble column can actually cull. This fact has also been made more apparent in the codebase.
  • "Enable Animations" (enable_animations) ➡ "Animations" (animations)
  • This was changed because the boolean option type is already implied by the tickbox control.
  • "Culling"..."Bubble Columns" (Java-like) (bubble_columns) ➡ "Top Face Culling"..."Java-ish" (java_ish)
  • This was changed because the culling behavior extended beyond just culling against other bubble columns. I felt it was more apt to suggest it simply worked like other blocks in Java Edition which is what I was going for anyway.
  • "Culling"..."None" (none) ➡ "Top Face Culling"..."Off" (off)
  • This was changed to make more sense grammatically, and to be more clear about what it actually does.

</details>

## 🐛 Fixes
  • The game logs will no longer show a warning for a missing "particle" texture key in the bubble column model file.
  • Replaced 0%-opacity #FFFFFF pixels in the bubble column block textures with #000000. (blame Bedrock Edition for that blunder xd)
  • Added a log message for when **Blocky Bubbles** initializes.
  • Cleaned the codebase, improved readability, reduced Stonecutter swaps, took advantage of vanilla functions.

<p>I have updated the translation keys for all languages already, but I will leave it up to you to make sure the text is up-to-date. I am open to releasing localization fixes under a hotfix update; accessibility will forever be important to me! Just remember that I'll be deprecating certain game versions soon</p>

> [!NOTE]
> This resembles how Fast Leaves work!

I'll be honest, *I don't think this doesn't look very good* lol. However, it may still appeal to you if you're trying to debug something or if you play with **Animations** disabled. I'll let you be the judge of that!

Nothing of note this update! Just added 1.21.4 compatibility, refactored some things in the code and tweaked some translations in minor ways.
