Create: Steam 'n' Rails — Create Fly port

Steam 'n' Rails for Fabric, Minecraft 26.2, and Create Fly.

This page ports Create: Steam 'n' Rails to Create Fly for stable Minecraft 26.2. Steam 'n' Rails expands Create's train and steam systems with custom tracks, semaphores, conductors, bogeys, palettes, and other railway content.

The current stable release is SNR.FLY-STABLE-1.2.1 for Fabric / Minecraft 26.2

Compatibility

Component Required version
Minecraft 26.2 exactly
Mod loader Fabric Loader 0.19.3 or newer
Fabric API 0.152.0+26.2 or newer
Create Create Fly >=6.0.9-1 <6.0.10-0
Java 25
This port SNR.FLY-STABLE-1.2.1

This is a Fabric-only port. Forge and NeoForge are not supported. Use Create Fly rather than another Create implementation, and do not install the original Steam 'n' Rails JAR alongside this port.

Issue reports

When reporting a problem, include the complete latest.log or crash report, mod versions, a short reproduction sequence, and whether it also occurs with only Steam 'n' Rails and its required dependencies installed. For rendering or atlas issues, also include the GPU, driver version, graphics backend (OpenGL/Vulkan), resource packs, mipmap level and anisotropic filtering setting.

Contributing

Open an issue before starting a large change so its scope can be agreed on and duplicate work can be avoided. Pull requests should describe the affected Minecraft/Create Fly versions and include the checks used to verify the change.

Branches for this port must be named exactly <modloader>-<version>, with no additional words or suffixes. The current branch is fabric-26.2.

Translations for the upstream project are managed through Crowdin. Translation questions can be asked in the translator's chat on the Steam 'n' Rails Discord.

  • Fix mounted conductor toolboxes using an incorrect Create Fly block type.
  • Resolve bogey default styles after registration instead of retaining Create's initial standard style.
  • Avoid the conductor chunk-tracking hook when Very Many Players is installed.
  • Resolve whistle train names from the client railway manager and add a compact tooltip option.
  • Release railway graph points when their blocks are moved into contraptions.
  • Drop track casing with broken tracks and render casing with correct normals when Flywheel instancing is disabled.
  • Use specialized narrow and wide track blocks, restore mixed-material crossings, and apply gauge-specific curve rules.
  • Reject existing and prospective crossings at curve endpoints before consuming items or placing pavement, and return casing after successful crossing conversion.
  • Remove collided handcars from the railway graph and return their items.
  • Give handcars a distance-attenuated cog sound without steam sounds or smoke, and suppress invisible bogey effects.
  • Hide device overlays on phantom tracks and restore them on generic crossings.
  • Set the line width when drawing custom block outlines.
  • Add the station reservation toggle with persistence, navigation and network synchronization; increase the network protocol to 16.
  • Add empyreal, maple and pine Biomes O' Plenty tracks at all three gauges and refresh mahogany, redwood and umbran textures.
  • Update translations and add Italian.
  • Check that the runtime and archive versions match before compiling.
  • Update to Create Fly 6.0.9-2 and require build 2 or newer within the 6.0.9 line.
  • Fix the startup crash caused by the changed AddTrainPacket handler signature (#11).
  • Restore Shadow Realm trains after Create Fly dispatches client and server packets to the main thread.
  • Adapt diagonal buffer model normals to Create Fly's updated rendering API.
  • Fix curved-track casing interactions accepting invalid targets or players without build permission.
  • Prevent spectators and players without build permission from placing handcars on curved tracks.
  • Preserve track casing and its alternate model when saving schematics.
  • Restore the heating requirement for seven stone paint mixing recipes.
  • Disconnect clients with an incompatible Railways network protocol.
  • Make fuel tanks emit light according to the fluid they contain.
  • Expand legacy migration checks to cover streamlined smokestack orientation, entity chunks, and player root vehicles.
## Fixes

  • Fix train coupling leaving the rear carriage without wheels, unable to move or be controlled until reconnecting. Client train packets now use Create Fly's client railway manager; previously they looked up the rear train in the server manager after the server had already merged and removed it.
  • Fix client-side uncoupling updates potentially modifying an already-split integrated-server train a second time.
  • Default registerMissingTracks to true on fresh installations. Early block registration and generated common.json now use the same default, so the first startup and subsequent restarts register the same integration tracks.
  • Fix legacy train data migration with Trinkets Updated ([#9](https://github.com/cat4blep/Create-Steam-n-Rails-Fly/issues/9)), preserving equipment and third-party NBT.
  • Reduce block atlas usage by excluding 611 redundant connected-texture source sheets. Generated connected textures and original source assets are retained.
  • Recover from block atlas packing failures by retrying at a lower mip level when necessary. Original texture resolution and global graphics settings remain unchanged; distant texture filtering may use fewer mip levels for that atlas reload.
  • Fix deferred rendering of conductor equipment, whistle flags, semaphores and diesel smokestacks.
  • Fix axial smokestack rotation during quarter-turn train disassembly.
  • Read early datafixer and missing-track options from the current JSON configuration.
  • Reject unsupported coupler, switch, buffer and whistle interactions on curved track with feedback.
  • Sync server settings when joining, then restore local settings when disconnecting without overwriting client configuration files. Invalid synced settings are rejected or rolled back.
  • Remove expensive whistle route diagnostics and repetitive INFO logging.
  • Trains now brake before track buffers, and manual driving into blocked buffers is prevented.
  • Buffer clearance distances persist across world reloads.
  • Block GUIs remain usable while their block entities move on contraptions.
  • Removing cased track now cleans up its auxiliary collision blocks.
  • Conductors riding carriages are protected from ordinary damage while wrench damage still works.
  • Boiler support shapes, placement assistance, and Extendo Grip reach use the Minecraft 26.2 APIs.
  • Connected textures are restored for locometal and boiler palettes.
  • Wrench value-box icons use the Railways atlas in every render path.
  • Sliding-door mode translation keys are corrected.
  • Noisy coupling and train power-transition INFO logs are removed.
## Hotfix

  • Fixed the startup crash caused by MixinTrainRealism under Mixin 0.8.7.
  • Preserved symmetric acceleration and deceleration for trains moving in either direction.

## Rendering and UI

  • Bogey menu previews show complete models, including wheels and lower frames.
  • The preview uses the selected bogey style and full lighting.
  • The client hides phantom track in the world, helper overlays, and train assembly mode.
  • The station renderer resets flag state between frames, keeping the flag in place after track binding.
  • Ponder scenes for conductors, couplers, doors, semaphores, and track switches use the Minecraft 26.2 formats.
  • We fixed flashing, duplicated, and displaced elements in Ponder scenes.
  • We removed stray translucent pixels from 137 track textures and the handcar frame. The texture fixes cover built-in track materials and compatibility with Biomes O’ Plenty, Blue Skies, BYG, Create DD, Hex Casting, Nature’s Spirit, Quark, TFC, and Twilight Forest.

## Trains and Track

  • Players can start train assembly on monorail track with a creative-mode click or Railway Casing in survival mode.
  • Track switches retain their direction, automatic mode, lock state, and exits after a world reload.
  • Couplers retain their state, linked train, and occupied points after a world reload.
  • Handcar trains retain their type after loading a world.
  • Generic crossings retain their materials, update the track graph, and return both track items when broken.
  • Cased track retains its block entity data when connections change.
  • Route search handles incomplete track graphs without crashing.
  • Conductors stay seated on moving contraptions.

## Blocks and Interactions

  • Hinged doors, sliding doors, and trapdoors handle item-use interactions through the Minecraft 26.2 API.
  • Buffers and headstocks accept dyes and materials, then retain the selected appearance.
  • Conductor vents and stacked smokestacks respond to player interaction.
  • Middle-click selects the matching buffer, headstock, bogey, or smokestack variant.
  • Buffers, crossings, casings, and smokestacks support waterlogging.
  • Comparators read signals from track switches and couplers.
  • Paint brushes use repair items from the repair tag.

## Mechanics and Safety

  • Realistic mode limits the speed and acceleration of unfueled trains in both directions.
  • Handcars consume hunger while moving and use separate speed limits. Holding an Extendo Grip prevents hunger drain.
  • The track protection setting prevents creepers and ghast fireballs from destroying track.
  • Creative players can use the unlimited train relocation setting.
  • The server rejects mounted-toolbox packets that reference slots outside the hotbar.
  • An invalid cycle-menu selection no longer disconnects the player.
  • DataFixer leaves the SNR data version out of statistics and advancements.
  • The skipClientDerailing setting removes stutter while the track graph changes. The client does not render derailments while this setting is enabled.

## Recipes

  • The data pack restores 274 missing recipes for fuel tanks, portable fuel interfaces, workbench minecarts, jukebox minecarts, conductor vents, cap recoloring, flywheels, and the full ladder palette.
