Crossbow Enchants
Crossbow Enchants is a customizable server or client sided mod, that enhances the crossbow experience by enabling bow exclusive enchantments on the crossbow. It currently supports Fabric and Quilt.
In addition to that, Crossbow Enchants also supports making Infinity and Mending compatible on crossbows and bows, as well as making Piercing and Multishot compatible on crossbows, and making Looting compatible on both bows and crossbows.
Although Crossbow Enchants was initially made to work on the server side exclusively, it works perfectly fine on singleplayer too. If you plan on running this mod on the server side, the players do not need to have it installed on the client side.
Commands
Using the following commands, you can customize the functionality of the mod, note that players must have operator status to use these commands on a server:
/crossbowenchants <disable/enable>- A toggle command for the global functionality of the mod./crossbowenchants enchantments <disable/enable> <enchantment>- Disable or enable a specific enchantment./crossbowenchants features <disable/enable> <feature>- Disable or enable a specific feature, features include Infinity-And-Mending, and Piercing-And-Multishot./crossbowenchants info- This command outputs the current settings of the mod to the player./crossbowenchants reset- This command resets the settings to default, by default, all enchantments and features are enabled.
Configuration
You can also customize the mod directly from its config file, located at .\config\crossbowenchants.toml.
Here are the contents of the config file by default:
#A toggle for the global functionality of Crossbow Enchants.
Enabled = true
#A toggle for the functionality of the Flame enchantment on the crossbow.
FlameEnabled = true
#A toggle for the functionality of the Infinity enchantment on the crossbow.
InfinityEnabled = true
#A toggle for the functionality of the Looting enchantment on crossbows and bows.
LootingEnabled = true
#A toggle for the functionality of the Power enchantment on the crossbow.
PowerEnabled = true
#A toggle for the functionality of the Punch enchantment on the crossbow.
PunchEnabled = true
#A toggle for the compatibility of Infinity and Mending on crossbows and bows.
InfinityAndMendingEnabled = true
#A toggle for the compatibility of Piercing and Multishot on crossbows.
PiercingAndMultishotEnabled = true
Note that the config will not reset if any property is missing or improperly formatted, instead, the mod will use the default value for that property, which is 'true' in all cases.
Dependencies
Fabric API: Crossbow Enchants requires the Fabric API to function properly. Ensure you have it installed alongside the mod before starting your client or server.
Additional Info
Enchantment Behavior
Note that disabling any of the enchantments will result in the following outcome:
-
The enchantments will no longer be applicable to crossbows through the use of an anvil.
-
[Minecraft 1.20 to 1.20.4] The enchantments will stop functioning on pre-existing crossbows that are enchanted with them (Except for Looting).
Feature Behavior
Note that disabling a feature will result in the following outcome:
- The enchantments that are affected by the feature will no longer be compatible with each other through the use of an anvil, but will work perfectly normal on pre-existing items that are enchanted with them.
Infinity and Mending
Enabling the Infinity-And-Mending feature will make the Infinity and Mending enchantments universally compatible, meaning they will also work on bows.
In order to avoid making the crossbow too powerful in comparison to the bow, I decided to leave it as it is for now. Although I might make a setting for this specific case in the future.
Issues
If you have a question, a suggestion, or if you run into any other problem, please don't hesitate to submit an issue.
Please note: As of December 2nd, 2024, I’ve started my studies, which will keep me busy for the next few years. This means I will have significantly less time to actively work on the Crossbow Enchants or respond to feedback and issues.
I’ll still do my best to address important issues and consider suggestions when possible, but response times may be slower.

This update brings Crossbow Enchants to the latest Minecraft version, and fixes the following issue:
- Fixed a bug in which the Piercing and Multishot feature was controlled by the global toggle instead of its specific toggle.
- Implemented the improvements mentioned in [release 1.2.3](https://modrinth.com/mod/crossbow-enchants/version/1.2.3+1.21.1), and the bug fix mentioned in [release 1.2.4](https://modrinth.com/mod/crossbow-enchants/version/1.2.4+1.21.1), to this version for Minecraft 1.21.
- Fixed a bug where the Flame, Infinity, Mending, and Punch enchantments were not appliable to crossbows when the mod was installed on the client side and the client’s language was set to something other than English.
- Modified the parsing of the config, the instance will no longer crash when a ParsingException is thrown by NightConfig, and instead Crossbow Enchants will operate normally with default values.
- Added all the improvements mentioned in [release 1.2.3](https://modrinth.com/mod/crossbow-enchants/version/1.2.3+1.21.1) to this version.
- Added backwards support, this version now supports all versions from 1.20 to 1.20.4, inclusive.
- Improved commands class - shortened it by using a single method for all config modifications, in addition to that, all changes to the config through commands are now broadcasted to all players with op status.
- Improved config manager class - now catches parsing exceptions that are thrown by NightConfig and adds some information to them, also added logging of missing config properties.
- Updated inconsistent comments and added new comments to hopefully make the code slightly more understandable.
I'm also currently working on a big mod, one that will be nice for us Terraria players, stay tuned!
- Fixed a bug where the instance would crash when an entity such as a pillager or a skeleton used a crossbow enchanted with infinity - Issue [#2](https://github.com/TimVincii/Crossbow-Enchants/issues/2).
- Fixed a bug where tipped or spectral arrows would become unpickable after being shot from a crossbow enchanted with infinity.
