Glowtone 2.0.0 Alpha
Not the block! A utility mod providing easy resource-pack driven and highly optimised coloured lights, emissives, ambient occlusion, edge highlights and general block shaders. Check the Gallery for beatuiful examples from our built-in assets! Is not currently up to date with new features, we will update it soon.
Use the default provided lights, or our resource-pack for extra fancy shader driven visuals, or bring your own! Take a look at our assets for example useage if you want to set up compatability for your own mods or want to make resource-packs. Docs on new features coming soon.
Compatability
- Sodium 0.9.X
- LambDynamicLights
- AsyncParticles
This is an early release and is highly experimental! If you run into issues with our features or compat with other mods, please report on either our Discord server of GitHub repository. Feel free to make sugestions.
. . . yeah, technically this has shaders but they do not blow up low-end hardware and is functionally pretty different to shaderpacks.
Use the older available versions for the older and more stable feature set (just emissives)
All Versions
+ Add Version- Added resourcepack-driven settings:
- Will document this properly soon but in short is is just means of adding categories and entries to video settings and having extra buttons on the resourcepack screen to open.
- Can be exposed to be readable elsewhere, glowtone allows shaders to read them.
- This will be migrated into it's own separate project in future
- Added resourcepack "subpacks":
- Resource "overlays" of sorts, smaller modules that can be applied ontop of the resourcepack.
- Can be mounted and dismounted based settings
- This will be migrated along with the settings at some point
- Added default billboard shaders
- Added extra features to in-built packs:
- Settings driven modules for original features
- Watching eyeblossoms
- Billboard planes
- Introduced a pretty scuffed implementation of tinted skylight floods
- Major optimisations to block shader pipeline
- General optimisations and cleanup all over the place
- Mixin killswitches
- Safer mixin implementations to prevent conflicts and crashes
After almost a year of sporadic planning, experimenting and errors and a recent crunch, we are very pleased to bring you the first release of Glowtone's biggest update probably ever.
New features (moderately experimental):
- Coloured Lighting
- Fancy Ambient Occlusion
- Edge Highlights
- Bloom
- Custom Block Materials
Boasting Compatability with:
- Sodium
- LambDynamicLights (partial)
- AsyncParticles (partial)
Changes and Improvements:
- Better Item Emissives
- Entity Emissives
- Smooth Flipbook Interpolation
All of these new features are datadriven, and highly performant compared to the deferred pipeline offered by things like Iris.
Again, this is highly experimental and the first public release. Please report any issues you find (performance or general feature related) or even feature requests on our Discord or the GitHub repository.
We will be providing propper documentation soon after we finish polishing things out and get a version handler in place to support potential schema changes in future. Until then, enjoy our in-built resources and experimental pack featuring some fun examples of block shaders, like **waving leaves**, **fancy nether logs**, and **datadriven end portal visuald**.
