Molten Veins

Sick of running back to a furnace every five minutes? Molten Veins auto-smelts iron, gold, copper, and ancient debris the moment you mine it, so ingots just show up in your inventory.

It also handles vein mining. Hold the key, break one ore block, and the whole connected vein comes down with it. Up to 256 blocks in one go, smelted on the spot where it applies.

Features

  • Auto-smelt: iron, gold, copper, ancient debris, and clay turn into their finished form as soon as you mine them
  • Five mining modes: Vein, Excavate, Tunnel, 3x3, and Layer, switchable on the fly with a keybind, scroll wheel, or the settings menu
  • Vein mining: one block breaks the whole vein, and it's not limited to ores; hay bales, clay, and obsidian work too
  • Silk Touch: respected as normal, so silk touch drops the raw block instead of auto-smelting it
  • Fortune: auto-smelt still factors in fortune for extra drops
  • XP bonus: a random 1-4x multiplier so you're not losing out on the XP a furnace would've given you
  • Magnet mode: drops go straight to your inventory instead of the ground
  • Custom settings screen: press Z for a hand-built config UI with toggle switches, item icons, and an orange theme
  • Per-block toggles: turn auto-smelt or vein mining on or off block by block
  • Rebindable keys: change any hotkey from Minecraft's normal controls menu
  • Modded ores: supported

Mining Modes

Mode What it does
Vein Flood-fills connected ore of the same type, classic vein mining
Excavate Clears connected blocks of the same type, good for stone and dirt
Tunnel Digs forward in whatever direction you're facing, length adjustable, with an optional 3x3
3x3 Breaks the 3x3 area around whatever you mine
Layer Breaks a flat layer around the block, adjustable up to chunk size

Switch modes with the Cycle Mode key (V by default), by holding Vein Mine and scrolling, or by picking one directly in the settings menu. Tunnel length and layer size are both configurable in the GUI.

Controls

Key Action
Left Alt Vein Mine (hold while mining)
V Cycle Mining Mode
Z Open Settings

All of these can be remapped under Options → Controls → Molten Veins.

Supported Blocks

Coal, Diamond, Iron, Gold, Copper, Emerald, Lapis, Redstone, Quartz, Ancient Debris, Nether Gold Ore, Hay Bale, Clay, Obsidian, and all their deepslate variants.

Requirements

  • Minecraft 1.21.8+
  • Fabric Loader 0.18.3+
  • Fabric API
  • NeoForge Loader
  • Works on both client and server

[0.8.4] Molten Veins 0.8.4 by dark979spider on Nov 04, 2026

# Molten Veins 0.8.4

A fix release. Five of the mod's advancements turned out to be impossible to get, so those are
fixed, along with a few smaller things that were quietly wasting your pickaxe or losing your
settings.

  • Minecraft:** 1.21.8, 1.21.9, 1.21.10, 1.21.11, 26.1, 26.1.1, 26.1.2, 26.2, 26.3
  • Loaders:** Fabric and NeoForge

## Fixes

  • Five advancements could never be earned.** Vein Destroyer, Lapis Collector, Redstone Engineer,
Iron Hoarder and Gold Rush all asked for more than 64 of an item. The way Minecraft checks these,
it looks at a single stack in your inventory rather than your total, and a stack tops out at 64.
So no matter how much you mined, they were never going to pop.

They now ask for the storage block instead, at the smallest amount that still covers what they
asked for before:

  • Vein Destroyer:** 12 blocks of diamond (108 diamonds, it used to ask for 100)
  • Lapis Collector:** 15 blocks of lapis (135 lapis, used to be 128)
  • Redstone Engineer:** 29 blocks of redstone (261 dust, used to be 256)
  • Iron Hoarder:** a full stack of iron blocks (576 ingots, same as before)
  • Gold Rush:** a full stack of gold blocks (576 ingots, same as before)

Iron Hoarder and Gold Rush already said "1 full stack of blocks" in their descriptions, so those
two finally do what they always claimed. Diamond Hands, Emerald Hunter and Ore Lord sit under two
of these in the advancement tab, so that whole branch opens up properly now too.

  • Your settings could be lost if something else closed the settings screen.** The screen doesn't
pause the game, so if you died, got kicked, or the server opened something while you had it up,
your changes never got saved and never reached the server. They only stuck if you closed it with
Done or Esc. It now saves however the screen closes.

  • Layer and Hammer mode wore your pickaxe down on water and lava.** Breaking a water or lava block
just puts the same fluid straight back, but the mod still charged durability for it and counted it
toward your Mining Limit. A Layer swing next to a lake or a lava pool mostly burned durability for
nothing. Liquids are skipped now.

  • Instant-break blocks cost durability.** In vanilla, breaking grass, flowers, torches or redstone
dust doesn't touch your tool's durability. The shape modes sweep a lot of those up, and they were
all costing a point each. They're free now, same as vanilla.

  • Some keybinds showed up as gibberish in Controls.** On Fabric for 1.21.9 and newer, the Mode
Scroll Modifier key showed as key.moltenveins.scrollmodifier instead of its name, which made it
hard to find. On 1.21.8, the Molten Veins section heading had the same problem on both loaders.
Both have proper names now.

  • Opening settings while holding the mouse could click something.** If you were mining and pressed
the settings key, the held mouse button could register as a click on whatever was under the cursor,
which sometimes changed your mode or your Mining Limit. That's fixed. 2

all costing a point each.

# Molten Veins 0.8.3

NeoForge 26.3 has gone stable, so the 26.3 NeoForge build is off the betas and onto the real
release. I also fixed a handful of bugs, including one that was handing out far too much
netherite.

  • Minecraft:** 1.21.8, 1.21.9, 1.21.10, 1.21.11, 26.1, 26.1.1, 26.1.2, 26.2, 26.3
  • Loaders:** Fabric and NeoForge

## NeoForge 26.3 is now on the stable release

0.8.2 had to sit on 26.3.0.52-beta, because the betas after it crashed on the title screen.
NeoForge has fixed that since, and 26.3 now has proper stable releases. The first one was
26.3.0.76, so that is what this is built against.

  • The 26.3 NeoForge jar needs 26.3.0.76 or newer.** It works on every stable 26.3 build from
there up, including the newest one out right now. I checked everything Molten Veins uses from
NeoForge in both the oldest and newest stable builds, and none of it changed between them.

If you are still on a 26.3 beta, update NeoForge to the latest stable. You no longer need to
avoid .53 through .55, because there is no reason to be on a beta at all now.

## Fixes

  • Fortune was multiplying Ancient Debris.** This is the big one. In vanilla, Fortune does
nothing to Ancient Debris, one block always gives you one. With auto-smelt on, Molten Veins was
applying Fortune to it anyway, so a Fortune III pickaxe could turn one debris into as many as
four netherite scrap. That is a lot of free netherite. It now gives exactly one, same as vanilla.
Clay already had this exemption, debris just never got it.

  • Adding a vanilla block to extraBlocks made it auto-smelt every time you broke it.** The
extraBlocks list is meant to let you vein mine extra blocks. But if you put a vanilla block in
there, say minecraft:oak_log for tree felling, the mod also started treating it as a smeltable
ore. So every log came out as charcoal, and sand would come out as glass, even when you just
broke one block normally without the key held. Vanilla blocks in that list now get vein mined
and nothing else. Blocks from other mods are unaffected.

  • Gem-style modded ores gave no XP.** Ores from other mods that drop a gem rather than a raw ore
keep their XP in the block itself, not in a smelting recipe, and because Molten Veins breaks
blocks its own way, that XP was getting skipped entirely. You would mine a vein of some modded
gem ore and get nothing. They now pay out their XP like they should, on both loaders, and Silk
Touch still correctly gives none.

  • Hammer mode dug the wrong way when you looked down at the floor.** Hammer mode picked which
way to lay its 3x3 based on where you were looking, not which face of the block you actually
hit. So mining a floor block a couple of blocks in front of you, looking down at a shallow angle,
dug a vertical 3x3 into the ground instead of clearing a flat patch of floor. It now follows the
face you hit.

  • A long extraBlocks list could stop vein mining working on servers.** Your settings get sent
to the server, and the two blo
