Sound Physics Aeronautics

Sound Physics Aeronautics is a fork of Sound Physics Remastered built around Create Aeronautics and Sable moving sublevel acoustics.

This mod integrates previously "ignored" Sable sub-levels and Create contrpations to the geometry of Sound Physics Remastered. It also adds the doppler effect, long range propeller audio, and more.

Do not install Sound Physics Remastered alongside SPR Aeronautics. Use one or the other.

If you are not using Aeronautics or at least Create, the original Sound Physics Remastered by henkelmax is probably the better choice.

What This Adds

Moving Acoustics

Moving sublevels can contribute their rotated and moving geometry to acoustic checks, letting Sound Physics effects behave naturally around Aeronautics vehicles and Create contraptions like trains.

Depending on the situation, this can affect:

  • sound muffling through ship hulls
  • exterior vs interior sound behavior
  • acoustic obstruction from moving sublevel blocks/contraptions
  • positional audio from machinery mounted on moving ships
  • sound behavior while the listener or source is on a moving craft

Long-Range Aeronautics Propellers

Large, high-RPM Aeronautics propellers can carry far beyond vanilla range. Vanilla Aeronautics propellers have a sound range of just 48 blocks. SPRA scales that range up to 1024 blocks depending on propeller size and speed!

They appropriately become softer and more distant with range, turning into a subtle background presence instead of assasulting your ears.

Optional Distant Horizons LOD terrain checks for very far propellers, allowing aircraft behind DH mountains or ridges to sound quieter.

For best results: use SSRD and Distant Horizons

Doppler Effect

SPRA adds a Doppler effect for positional sound sources, fully configurable.

When a supported source moves toward or away from the listener, its pitch can shift based on relative motion. Neat, huh?

What Changed From Sound Physics Remastered

Major changes include:

  • Sable sublevel and Create contraption acoustic support
  • long-range propeller, thruster, and train audio
  • Distant Horizons far-sound occlusion
  • Doppler support for selected positional sources
  • Reworked sound reflections
  • Multipathing "portal" sound system

Known Limits

This is a fork! This means you cannot have Sound Physics Remastered and SPRA installed at the same time! The upstream SPR mod needed too much work done to allow for an addon style mod.

SPRA is, naturally, a bit heavier on performance. Think of it as shaders for sounds. The mod defaults to a medium preset which can be lowered or raised depending on your hardware.

# Sound Physics Aeronautics 2.0.0

(YOUR CONFIG WILL ONE-TIME REGENERATE UNDER sound_physics_aeronautics FOLDER!)

SPRA 2.0 is a major overhaul focused on **performance, better acoustics, and making the mod far easier to configure. Focused closed-beta testing would suggest that we have essentially solved our performance issues that plagued the alpha. However, you should still thing of SPRA as "shaders for sounds" meaning it is and always will be computationally intensive. **

## What's New

  • Massively improved performance.** Typical workloads are over **150% faster**, with improvements reaching roughly **600% in some previous worst-case scenarios**. SPRA should be dramatically more practical to run alongside shaders and larger modpacks.

  • Completely redesigned configuration.** The old wall of technical settings has been replaced with a much simpler interface built around features players actually understand. Under the hood, all of those old settings can still be tweaked directly in the config file itself.

  • Five quality presets:** **Potato, Low, Medium, High, and Epic**, allowing SPRA to scale much more effectively across different hardware. The previous "150% faster" headline refers to Medium, which uses the same defaults as previous versions.

  • Sound through openings has been completely overhauled.** Doors, windows, hatches, holes, and other real openings now carry sound much more naturally and reliably, especially on moving ships and aircraft.

  • Major reflection overhaul.** Sounds now make much better use of surrounding walls and terrain, making rooms, hangars, streets, valleys, and large machinery feel considerably more spatial and directional. We hooked the upstream SPR reflections into our multipathing system, so you get the muffled source as well as a crisp reflected child.

  • Much better propeller acoustics.** Propellers now behave more like large physical sound sources rather than a single point, improving reflections, obstruction, outdoor exposure, and how they sound from inside vehicles.

  • Swivel-bearing propeller support.** Nested and variable-pitch rotors (such as helicopter rotors) can now produce proper propeller audio.

  • Sail Windrush.** Fast moving sails now produce positional airflow sounds that respond to their size and movement.

  • Major moving-world audio improvements.** Sounds on Sable structures are more stable and consistent while structures move, rotate, change, or travel long distances.

  • Improved distant machinery and Distant Horizons support**, including more reliable distant-terrain muffling and better handling of machinery far outside normal simulation distance.

  • Large numbers of fixes and compatibility improvements** for modded sounds, moving contraptions, audio cleanup, long play sessions, and interactions with other sound-modifying mods.

## Coming in 2.1

  • Acoustic travel delay and sonic booms are implemented but remain experimental and off by default until 2.1**

A large amount of work has already gone into physically delayed moving sounds and supersonic shock waves, but the systems still have remaining issues to resolve. We also want proper original sonic boom audio rather than shipping the current placeholder sounds.

## Sound Physics Aeronautics 1.4.0 -- E pluribus unum
This was meant to be bundled in with the much large (still coming) update that brings portals 2.0 and a config/performance overhaul but portals are proving difficult to perfect. So I split the solid performance items into this standalone update, with the rest to come soon^TM.

  • Major acoustic performance improvements, reducing duplicated calculations and reusing results where they can be proven equivalent "from many, one". This should drastically reduce the performance hit that stemmed from using multiple propellers.
  • Reworked Aeronautics propeller acoustics around physical propeller groups, allowing paired loop sounds to share one authoritative environmental and multipath evaluation while retaining their individual sound presentation.
  • Improved enclosure continuity during contraption geometry and topology changes, reducing false indoor/outdoor transitions while structures are moving or rebuilding.
  • Hardened multipath rendering in general in preperation for broader portal routing aimed at addressing a shortfall of the original SPR mod.
  • Added highly experimental speed-of-sound acoustic delay and sonic-boom presentation. This remains **disabled by default** and should definetly stay that way. This is just groundwork for a coming update.
  • Significantly expanded diagnostics.
  • Fixed compatability with Tacz tweaks (and probably many other mods that were intended to hook into the original SPR mod)

Aeronautics 1.3.1 compat hotfix.
## SPRA Weekly Update - Full Throttle

This update greatly expands moving-machine acoustics while improving performance and stability.

### Highlights

  • Added long-range acoustics for Create trains, including body noise, wheels, steam, stops, whistles, occlusion, and Doppler.
  • Added long-range support for Create: Propulsion Simulated thrusters, with thrust-scaled range, reflections, and Doppler. Portal routing for this is deferred.
  • Added acoustic geometry for ALL Create contraptions (gantries, trains, mechanical pistons, windmills, etc) allowing their walls, interiors, openings, and fluids to affect sound processing.
  • Significantly improved performance with multiple propellers and multipath audio without noticeably reducing acoustic quality.
  • Fixed excessive cave-like reverb on Sable sublevels and distant outdoor reflection paths.
  • Fixed stale block geometry, disappearing audio, audio-device recovery, and abandoned OpenAL resources.
  • Expanded diagnostics and strengthened compatibility with Simple Voice Chat.

## SPRA - Bug Fix Update | Sound Check

This update focuses entirely on stability and bug fixes. New features and more robust portal behavior are in development.

### Highlights

  • Fixed sounds gradually becoming quieter or disappearing during longer sessions.
  • Improved recovery after audio reloads, device changes, and master-volume resets.
  • Fixed stale OpenAL sources, filters, effects, and multipath audio resources.
  • Fixed long-range propeller attenuation not restoring correctly.
  • Fixed rapid block breaking causing sounds to be muffled by already-removed blocks.
  • Fixed block changes not immediately updating acoustic geometry.
  • Improved audio lifecycle diagnostics and cleanup reliability.

No intentional acoustic balancing, portal tuning, or configuration changes are included. Full-time development has resumed and more awesome features are on the way. Thank you for your patience.

## SPRA — Weekly Update | Can You Hear Me Now?

This update substantially improves Aeronautics propeller acoustics and lays the foundation for believable sound transmission through rooms, doors, windows, hulls, and exterior openings. **I am prematurely releasing this in alpha state. I believe it is in a good but not great state. I appreciate everyone's help in identifying bugs. Almost all of them are address but this release probably comes with new ones. development must pause for a few days while I deal with a family issue***

### Highlights

  • Added a new multipath audio system with directional aperture, portal, and edge-diffraction sound arrivals.
  • Added collision-shape-aware routing through open doors, trapdoors, gates, slabs, panes, and other partial blocks.
  • Improved acoustic routing across moving and rotated Sable sublevels.
  • Added interior connected-air transport for sound passing through doors and openings without requiring outdoor exposure.
  • Improved propeller occlusion, large-emitter classification, route power allocation, and energy conservation.
  • Improved route-search performance, fairness, caching, and diagnostic accuracy.
  • Fixed non-strict occlusion ray behavior. (thank you Succubyte)
  • Fixed underwater filtering being triggered by underwater sources instead of the listener. (thank you [**brauzer666**](https://www.curseforge.com/members/brauzer666)**)**
  • Excluded weather from acoustic and Doppler processing. (thank  you [**Dinonator123**](https://www.curseforge.com/members/dinonator123)**)**
  • Updated and hardened optional Distant Horizons terrain-occlusion integration.
  • Added an optional (on by default) amplified Aeronautics propeller resource pack. (thank you **WhoTfTookAaxel)**
  • Fixed Simple Voice Chat integration (thank you V3RYM3GAFUN)
  • Removed herobrine

Portal transition polish remains an active area of development. A recent presentation-continuity experiment was reverted after it performed worse in testing. Walking through portals may not be fabulous in every conceivable situation, but we will get there together! Config migration *should* work but if you find issues, the first thing to try is probably deleting your configs and letting them regenerate.

This update brings broad reliability, performance, and compatibility improvements while keeping the overall experience largely unchanged.

Improved moving-aircraft acoustics and propeller audio
More consistent occlusion, reverb, and sound behavior
Numerous stability fixes and internal optimizations

A more thoroughly tested beta release with a big feature is coming soon.
