This project is for Forge. Forge support ends with Minecraft 1.20.1.
1.21.1 and 1.21.7 to 1.21.8 run on NeoForge and Fabric and are on the main project: The Graveyard
Structures, mobs, blocks and a boss with a graveyard theme.
Graveyards, crypts and overrun villages, the Corrupted Champion in its prison, and a Chronicle that collects the lore.
Version: 1.20.1
Boss music "Incarnated Evil" thanks to Rotch Gwylt

The Graveyard fills the Overworld with the places where the dead are buried, and with the dead that do not stay there. Small graves stand in plains, deserts, savannas and on mountains. Larger graveyards lie in forests and taigas, a haunted house rots in the dark forest, and a crypt winds through the caves far below. At night the undead walk, and now and then a whole horde of them appears near a player.
Some villages did not survive. Overrun villages are burnt-out vanilla villages: charred and scorched houses, embers that still smolder, skeletons where the villagers fell, corrupted illagers on guard and flocks of crows. At night tormented villagers wander through the ruins, sobbing over what they lost. A ringing bell sets their broken souls free. If nobody rings it, they fade away at dawn.
What happened is written down in the Chronicle. Its 36 pages are hidden in the chests of graveyards, crypts and the other structures of the mod. And high above the ocean, locked in its prison, the Corrupted Champion waits.

Mobs
The undead
- Ghoul, Revenant and Nightmare roam at night. Ghouls and Revenants burn in daylight.
- Skeleton Creeper: an undead creeper. It swells before it explodes. By default the explosion does not break blocks.
- Wraith: can rise when you open a coffin or sarcophagus below ground. It puts out torches and other lights near it.
- Reaper: off by default, can be turned on in the config.
The corrupted
- Acolyte: an illager in the service of the Corruption. It drops the Bone Dagger.
- Corrupted Vindicator, Corrupted Pillager and Corrupted Evoker: undead illagers that guard the overrun villages.
- Tormented Villager: appears in overrun villages at night. Weapons do not hurt it. Ring a bell within 48 blocks to redeem it and get experience. Left alone, it fades away at dawn.
- Nameless Hanged: a trader that only deals at night. It takes Corruption, which the mobs of this mod drop, as payment.
Birds
- Raven: sits on gravestones, fences, walls and leaves.
- Crow: flies in flocks, eats crops and scatters when startled. Crows keep away from scarecrows: a carved pumpkin or jack o'lantern on a hay bale with a fence next to or under the bale, or an armor stand that wears a pumpkin.
- Magpie: picks up shiny items from the ground, such as nuggets, ingots, raw ores and gems. Hit it and it drops what it took.
The Ghouling
Use a bone staff on a block to raise a Ghouling. It follows you, fights for you and waits when told to. You can draw it into the staff and set it down again somewhere else. Give it a coffin or a sarcophagus and it carries 54 slots of items and picks up what lies around. How to get a bone staff is in the spoiler under The Corrupted Champion.
Blocks and items
- Skeleton decorations: 39 skeletons, skulls and bone piles in normal and wither versions. They are carved from bone blocks in the Ossuary.
- Gravestones in 13 stone types. You can write on them like on a sign.
- Urns: glazed urns and small urns in 16 colors, and large terracotta urns in 17 variants. Urns store items.
- Coffins in 11 wood types and the Sarcophagus, both with storage.
- Dark Iron: ingot, block, door, trapdoor and bars. The door and trapdoor open by hand.
- Fire Brazier, Soul Fire Brazier, Candle Holder, Small Pillar and Ceramics.
- Charred and scorched wood from the overrun villages: planks, logs, wood, stairs, slabs, fences, fence gates, doors and trapdoors, plus Smoldering Debris. Eight logs around a piece of charcoal make scorched logs, eight scorched pieces around charcoal make charred ones. Light them with flint and steel or a fire charge and they smolder. Put them out with a shovel or a water bucket.
- Lore Book: lay a Chronicle page down in the world as a Lore Book for the next player.
- Bone Dagger, Vial of Blood, Corruption and the music disc "Incarnated Evil" by Rotch Gwylt.
The Corrupted Champion
The Corrupted Champion is what is left of a hero who fell to the Corruption. It waits at the altar of its prison above the ocean, and only blood calls it back.
Summoning the Corrupted Champion (spoiler)
Summoning
- Find the three Ominous Bone Staff Fragments: the upper, the middle and the lower piece. Each Ruins structure holds one of them. Break the fragment to take it. The Nameless Hanged sometimes sells a fragment for 64 Corruption, or a map to the Ruins.
- Get a Bone Dagger. Craft it from bones or take it from an Acolyte.
- Keep a glass bottle in your offhand or hotbar and kill villagers with the Bone Dagger. The first kill turns the bottle into a Vial of Blood. Eight kills fill it.
- Go to the Corrupted Champion's prison. Seven blocks in front of the altar, three blocks of Corrupted Deepslate give off soul particles. Place one fragment on top of each of them: the middle piece on the middle block, the upper and the lower piece on the two outer blocks.
- At night, and not on Peaceful, use the full vial on the altar. The fragments vanish, the vial empties and the Champion rises.
The fight
The fight has three phases, each with its own health bar. Revenants and ghouls join the fight.
- Phase 1: the Champion stays at its altar. Up close it strikes with a soul beam that throws you back. It casts falling corpses across the arena, fangs, cursed skulls and levitation. Below 300 health it teleports you away and heals while you get wither and mining fatigue. Damage stops the healing.
- Phase 2: it rises again and hunts you for 40 seconds. It is faster, hits harder, charges at you, blinds you and pulls you close. It cannot be hurt while it hunts. Then it goes back to its altar and stands stunned for 30 seconds. Hit it then.
- Phase 3: its body breaks and it crawls. It is faster, chases you and pounces at you from a few blocks away.
The reward
The Champion drops a bone staff in one of five colors: white, black, red, cyan or purple. The staff calls a Ghouling. As soon as a bone staff is in your inventory, the staff recipes unlock. From then on you can also craft a staff from the three Ominous Bone Staff Fragments and a dye of the color you want.
Configuration
File: graveyard.json5, in the graveyard folder of the loader's config directory.
- Structures: each one on or off, with a generation chance. The height of the crypt and of the prison can be changed.
- Mobs: each one on or off. Most mobs also have spawn weight, group size, burning in daylight, and health, damage and speed factors. This works the same on every loader.
- Hordes: on or off, how often they come, how far from the player and whether only at night.
- Corrupted Champion: summoning, spell durations and cooldowns, the phase change, the number of summoned mobs, darker sky and fog, and the boss music.
- Behaviour: magpies taking items, crows eating crops, the Ghouling picking up items, wraiths putting out lights, the Skeleton Creeper's explosion radius and block damage, smoldering blocks in villages, the urn inventory size and the number of trades of the Nameless Hanged.
- Chronicle: the inventory button, the toast for each found page and pages in chest loot.
- Particles: fog and ash.
The option structuresOnly stops all natural mob spawns, spawners and hordes of this mod. Spawn eggs and commands still work.
A config from 3.x (the-graveyard-3.0-config.json5) is read once to create graveyard.json5. The old file is left as it is.
