🛡️ Visual Armor Trims 🎽
FAQ
What is this?
Click for answer
This pack aims to give the armor trims unique textures in the GUI, just like they have while worn by an entity.
This resource pack is a subset of Visuals if you like this, you will probably like that too.
In vanilla all the armor trim items have the same texture, only with different colors. This means that in vanilla, you cannot distinguish between a netherite chestplate with a gold coast trim vs a netherite chestplate with a gold silence trim for example. The goal of this resource pack is to make that possible!
Below is a table of each of the new textures:
An example of how they compare to the entity:

How do I get it to work?

In order for you to get these wonderful textures:
- If you are on 1.21.5+ Visual Armor Trims are possible in Vanilla Minecraft! Download version 3.0 or higher!
- If you are on 1.21.3-1.21.4 these versions will not be getting Visual Armor Trims. It is recommended to update to 1.21.5.
- If you are on 1.21.2 or below you will need client side mods. See below for compatibility.
Compatibility with 1.21.2 and below
Targeted mods/modpacks for 1.21.2 and below include:
- Fabulously Optimized (recommended)
- CIT Resewn (requires pack version 2.1)
- Polytone (requires pack version 2.0)
Neither Chime nor OptiFine are officially supported.
It is still recommended to install Fabulously Optimized for 1.21.5+ for substantial performance gains, but it will no longer be necessary.
Here is a table of compatible Minecraft and mod versions.
| CIT Type | 1.20.4 or below | 1.20.5-1.20.6 | 1.21-1.21.2 | 1.21.3-1.21.4 | 1.21.5 and above |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Vanilla | impossible | impossible | impossible | impossible | latest |
| CIT Resewn | 1.1 | not supported | 2.1 with CIT Resewn v1.2.1+1.21 or above | not supported | not required |
| OptiFine | 1.0 | not supported | not supported due to paletted_permutations* |
not supported | not required |
| Polytone | not supported | not supported | 2.0 with Polytone v2.4.10 or above | not supported | not required |
| Chime | not supported | not supported | not supported | not supported | not required |
*Paletted permutations is a vanilla feature that was introduced in 1.19.4 that breaks OptiFine CIT
On (Neo)Forge, if you want to use the CIT Resewn version, you may be able to use Sinytra Connector or Forge CIT, however I do not test with these configurations. Polytone should work fine with NeoForge.

All Versions
+ Add Version### Changes
- Move
assets/minecraft/textures/trims/color_palettes/_fallback.pngtoassets/minecraft/textures/palettes/trim/_fallback.png - Update all references to textures that were moved in
assets/minecraft/atlases/items.json
This means that Visual: Armor Trims should now work much better with other resource packs, as long as they don't change the armor shape.
### Changes
- Remove
assets/minecraft/textures/item/<item_name>/{base, overlay}directories and their contents. - Simplify all
assets/minecraft/models/item/<item_name>/minecraft/<trim_name>.json, they no longer override layer0 and instead delegate to the vanilla model. - Leather armor now has the overlay on layer1 and the trim on layer2.
### Changes
- Rename
assets/minecraft/atlases/blocks.jsontoassets/minecraft/atlases/items.jsonto fix missing textures.
### Changes
- Increased the contrast of all trim item textures, to more closely align with vanilla
- Tweaked the shape of the Silence trim
- Overhauled the structure of the pack
- Removed duplicate textures (where possible)
- Improved fallback handling
- Unknown trim materials will now be magenta
- Unknown trim patterns will now be the default vanilla pattern
### Additions
- Added support for the new copper helmet, chestplate, leggings and boots
- Added a separate texture for the netherite helmet with a Wild trim
This resource pack is now a subset of [Visuals](https://modrinth.com/resourcepack/visuals). If you like this resource pack I highly recommend trying that one out!

### Fixes

v1.2.1+1.21or later** in order for this version of the resource pack to work, due to [this](https://github.com/SHsuperCM/CITResewn/issues/466) bug fix.
This release utilizes the new Polytone Custom Item Models format, which is the only working CIT format for latest versions at present.
<strong><ins>You MUST install Polytone 2.4.10</ins></strong> or above for this version of the pack to work.
Fabulously Optimized is currently waiting to update Polytone for stability reasons, so you may have to update it yourself.
