World_0

World_0 is the first public release of a psychological horror mod for Minecraft Java Edition.

This mod is built around anomalies, false presence, and environmental paranoia. At first, everything feels normal — but over time, the world begins to change. Sounds appear where nothing exists. Something moves outside your field of view. The environment reacts in ways it shouldn't.

This is not a typical horror mod with constant threats. Instead, it slowly builds tension through subtle, staged events designed to make the player question what is real.

Core Features

  • Chat-based horror events that break immersion intentionally
  • Mine anomalies (phantom footsteps, distant mining sounds)
  • Sky-watch event
  • Freeze, paralysis, and fall scenarios
  • Major horror events with progression
  • Custom echo-type entities

World Content

The mod includes several custom dimensions:

  • house
  • house_bad
  • koridor
  • void
  • voidportal

Each dimension is designed to feel unnatural and disconnected from normal gameplay.

Atmosphere

World_0 focuses on psychological pressure rather than direct danger.
There are no clear rules. No guarantees. Not everything you hear or see is real.

Notes

  • Designed as a strictly singleplayer experience
  • Best played alone, with sound enabled

Something is there. You just don’t see it yet.

  • disallowed placing and breaking blocks in the void dimension.
  • added persistent void state saving, so if you leave the game quickly, the scene will continue from the same point after rejoining.
  • fixed several sources of server lag without changing gameplay: reduced unnecessary allocations and optimized heavy repeated checks.
  • fixed a stuck void_portal state that could prevent the portal from working correctly after being used multiple times.
  • SkyWatch now terminates properly if the player force-quits the game and no longer remains stuck after rejoining.
  • after the real final kick to the main menu at the 180-minute mark, the "Create New World" button is permanently disabled, even after restarting the game.

  • fixed fake LAN behavior: the game no longer pauses after the fake "Open to LAN" message, and Esc now works like it does in a normal integrated server.
  • removed beehive generation from world generation completely to avoid the bee-spawn bug.
  • refined WorldZero event flow and interactions, including double chat progression, house chat handling, paralysis rewards, and related sleep/fall/skywatch logic.

  • Return from custom dimensions on relog.
Players who log out inside house, house_bad or koridor
are now sent back to the overworld on their next login.
Their entry point, inventory and vitals (health/hunger)
are restored; progress and the story timer are left
untouched. Previously these players stayed stranded
in the custom dimension.
  • Trap-box floor.
The block directly beneath the player in the trap box
is now dirt instead of bedrock, so it breaks correctly
at the drop. The rest of the box shell remains bedrock.

  • The late chat sequence after the neighbor leaves has been fully reworked. The old late monologues were removed and replaced with a new system: after the “leave” event, the real neighbor no longer talks as before, and the chat is sometimes answered by a strange fake presence with a broken-looking name.
  • New localized phrase sets were added for late chat: questions, answers, and hints. The fake speaker does not always respond, may ignore messages, delay replies, or answer off-topic to keep the feeling of a living but corrupted chat.
  • The first post-leave idle message was preserved, but it now comes from the new fake speaker.
  • Rare creepy vanilla ambient/mood sounds were added for the most unsettling late replies and hints.
  • Late chat logic was fixed so it starts only after the real neighbor has actually “left”, not just because enough time has passed.
  • sky_watch.notice, sky_watch.success, and sky_watch.failure were reworked: they now appear as private whisper-style messages and are sent only by the real neighbor using his normal name, without the late fake identity.
  • Village houses no longer count as the player’s house.
  • The neighbor house (dom.nbt) no longer appears immediately after the player builds a house: it now waits for the required story-chat stage and an additional delay, spawns farther from the player’s house, avoids villages, avoids lava, and should not appear directly in front of the player.
  • If neighbor_built or dom_changed would trigger after the real neighbor has already “left”, the house and its upgrade still happen, but without chat notifications.

  • Horror event pacing has been reworked: eligible one-time events can now play twice, and the 60–180 minute window is filled more evenly so the game does not stay quiet for too long. Major events and jumpscares will not fire back-to-back. The final event remains unchanged and still plays only once.
  • Minor anomalies now occur more often after the first 30 minutes. The early game remains calm: nothing happens during the first 30 minutes except echo appearances. wrong_wind stays rare and is limited to a maximum of two occurrences per playthrough. Paralysis has been restored to its original behavior: it can only happen once and only through sleep.
  • Added random black_echo jumpscares between 60 and 180 minutes. Each jumpscare has its own scenario and sound (bejs1, bejs2, bejs4), and they do not conflict with other events or trigger back-to-back.
  • Added a one-time hotbar blackout event: at a random moment between 30 and 60 minutes, the player’s hotbar is covered by a black rectangle for 20 ticks.
  • Added the trap event, which can trigger between 50 and 80 minutes when the player is not allowed to sleep. The player is launched into a bedrock box that appears high in the sky directly above their current position. Inside the box, blak_echo runs around the player, posts strange red chat messages, and bekorobka.ogg plays at full volume. When the sound ends, the entity stops in front of the player, breaks the block beneath them, and immediately triggers bejs3.ogg, causing the player to fall without dying on landing. The box now remains in the world after the event.
  • All key horror sounds, including jumpscares and trap, now play at full volume.
  • Added a separate nighttime event: at a random moment during the night, the player is forced to 1 chunk of render distance and receives a hidden darkness effect that does not appear in the inventory. The effect lasts for the duration of w0.ogg, then both render distance and visibility return to normal. The event does not conflict with other major events and will not start immediately after them.
  • Nether generation has been changed to an empty netherrack field with lava oceans and no extra terrain features. Allowed mobs still spawn there.
  • End generation has been changed to an empty end stone field. Endermen no longer spawn in the End, while their Overworld spawning remains untouched. The Ender Dragon now has its AI disabled: it stays in one place, flaps its wings, does not react to anything, and cannot heal from End Crystals. After the dragon is killed, the player gets a black screen with no sound and is automatically returned to their respawn point.
  • Removed player “avatars” from the TAB list.
  • After the local port message appears, the “Open to LAN” button in the pause menu becomes greyed out and fully inactive for the rest of the run.
  • Improved sky_watch cave detection: it now correctly recognizes mine-like surroundings based on stone, deepslate, and ores. Its timing has also been
