# Remnants: RPG Mobs 3.1.0
## New
- **Difficulty engine** (`difficulty.json`): difficulty grows with in-game days, your own play time, distance from
spawn, depth and your gear, each on a tunable curve, per dimension. It feeds the levels and ranks you already
know: harder places spawn higher levels and likelier Elites, Champions and Remnants.
- **Event nights** (`events.json`): the **Grim Vigil**, a night when named, ranked hunters track every survivor in
waves and a Remnant-rank mini-boss comes last. See the dawn for experience, Valor and a new advancement. Add your
own nights with their own schedule, waves and rewards.
- **Vital Embers**: ranked monsters (and every event mini-boss) may drop an ember that grows your heart: one more
heart of max health for good, up to ten. They survive death.
- **Mending Salve** and **Hunter's Draught**: healing that drops from Veterans and Elites.
- **Difficulty meter**: a small gauge on screen (with the mod on your client) and `/remnants difficulty` for
everyone.
- **Readable elites**: an aura in the rank's colour, boss bars for Champions, a red bar for event bosses, glowing
event hunters. Visible to players without the mod too.
- **Loot that scales**: the harder the place, the more extra loot rolls and shards ranked monsters drop, and
unranked monsters can roll once more. Rare drops of ranked monsters get a loot beam everyone can see.
- **Mob LootBags**: when installed, ranked monsters may drop a bag on top of its own drops, from Uncommon for Elites
to Legendary for event bosses, one tier better in the hardest places.
- `/remnants difficulty [player]`, `/remnants hearts [player] [set <n>]` and `/remnants event [list|start|stop]`.
- New entity tags `#remnant_mobs:ignores_difficulty`, `#remnant_mobs:event_hunters`,
`#remnant_mobs:event_mini_bosses` and dimension type tag `#remnant_mobs:no_difficulty`.
- API: `getDifficulty`, `getActiveEvent`, `registerBossTier`.
- New messages fall back to English text on clients without the mod's language file.
- **Minecraft 26.4 ready**: on 26.x, Frostbite uses the game's own Freezing effect once it exists instead of a
separate frost mechanic.
Available for 1.20.1 (Fabric, Forge), 1.21.1 (Fabric, NeoForge), and 26.1.2, 26.2 and 26.3 (Fabric, NeoForge,
Forge). **New: Forge builds for 26.1.2, 26.2 and 26.3.**
## Fixes
- Volatile monsters no longer destroy their own drops with their death blast.
- NeoForge (1.21.1 and 26.x): the server no longer crashes when a player without the mod is near a leveled monster.
- 26.1.2: nameplate text, most of all the level number, no longer breaks up into dark blocks when seen at an angle.
## Upgrading
**Nothing changes until you opt in.** Remnants finds your existing config and creates `difficulty.json`,
`events.json`, `progression.json`, `elites.json` and `loot.json` with every new system switched off. Set
`enabled: true` in any and run `/remnants reload`.
Fresh installs start with them on. Levels, ranks, traits, rewards and the Hunter's Moon behave exactly as in 3.0
either way; the five 3.0 config files are not rewritten and world data keeps its format.
